The Bureau of Civil Rights ensures through education, monitoring and enforcement that all Ohio Department of Job and Family Services customers (internal and external) are provided equal access to all rights and benefits as mandated by state and federal laws prohibiting discrimination. Clients should contact their local DJFS office to file a complaint or obtain information.
Goal is to successfully resolve complaints involving buyers and sellers in a fair and timely fashion. This includes complaints involving consumer-to-business and business-to- business transactions that involve the advertisement and/or sale of a product or service. Information concerning the nature and resolution of complaints filed with BBB is used in developing BBB Reliability Reports on companies. BBB accepts complaints whether or not the business is a BBB Accredited Business. BBB generally does not handle complaints which are more effectively handled by other government or private agencies or the legal system, such as complaints involving employment practices, discrimination, or matters in litigation. We will not handle complaints regarding professions (doctors, lawyers, etc.) or employer/employee disputes.
Accepts reports of unfair business practices and handles complaints dealing with consumer dissatisfaction with gambling organizations and and/or their products or services.
Provides free resources to active military personnel in the areas of financial literacy and consumer protection. The five (5) main components of the program are: - Education: Many Local BBBs on and around military installations teach financial readiness classes to service members. - Outreach: BBB staff attend and support community fairs, conferences and other events, speaking with service members and distributing information. - Information: BBB website provides a one-stop shop for articles, links and consumer alerts for each branch of service. The website, Facebook page and X/Twitter have a resources page with consumer guides written for military members. Provides the free app, "Military & Money", which features educational resources and tools to help users make informed decisions about money. - Data Collection: Analyzes BBB data to help identify the threats and needs of the military community in the marketplace. - Complaint and Dispute Resolution: Filing a complaint with BBB helps military consumers resolve disputes and alert the BBB to issues affecting the military community at large.

Regulates and provides information on groups that may solicit funds for charitable purposes in the State of Ohio. Keeps records of charitable organizations that are licensed with the State of Ohio and may provide financial statements of these organizations. Handles complaints about charities and provides information about which groups may raise funds for other agencies. Licenses charitable bingo games and offers information about them.
BBB maintains Business Profiles for businesses and nonprofit across North America. BBB takes complaints and customer reviews for BBB Accredited Businesses and non-Accredited Businesses. Complaints deal with consumer issues regarding products or services and customer reviews pertain to an interaction or transaction with organizations. BBB asks all businesses to respond to complaints and reviews, and to address any issue(s) stated.

Can submit a law enforcement tip on BCI investigation, crystal meth leads, election fraud, environmental enforcement, marijuana leads, public corruption, sex offender leads, submit a missing persons tip, unsolved homicide tip, report Medicaid fraud, patient abuse or neglect.

Coordinates with a variety of agencies to provide investigation of all types of consumer scams that Cuyahoga County residents encounter. Topics may include improper debt collection, landlord/tenant issues, identity theft, home repair programs, finance company, auto purchase, cable TV, cell phone service, Internet service provider, mortgage company, realtor, telephone solicitation, and other complaints related to specific business interactions. Can/will refer a complaint or a violation to the county prosecutor, Ohio attorney general, Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, or other appropriate agencies with jurisdiction over the complaint. May also enforce violations through civil actions.

This Agency helps to resolve and report local customer reviews (positive, neutral or negative), and complaints, between consumers and businesses and between businesses regarding customer service, repair, delivery, advertising, selling, service, products, guarantee-warranty, refund-exchanges, contracts, billing-collection, and charitable solicitation fundraising. Helps resolve complaints about new car complaints auto and manufacturers through AutoLine. Customer Reviews and Complaints may be filed against BBB Accredited Businesses and Non-Accredited Businesses. BBB does not provide legal counsel or process complaints against the government or involving employment disputes. We also offer BBB Scam Tracker to view and report scams. We have staff members available to provide speakers on a number of topics.
