Public Health Nurses focus on improving or maintaining, the health of individuals, families, and population groups within Athens County. Using clinical knowledge, social and public health sciences, Public Health Nurses promote recommended health prevention screenings, administer immunizations to prevent debilitating and life-threatening diseases, investigate communicable diseases to provide interventions to prevent disease from spreading and causing more illness and provide health education to meet the needs of the community.

A grant which will assist members of the community who have been diagnosed as legally blind (correctable vision of 20/200 or less). Through the grant, funding has been made available to assist legally blind individuals. Members of the Adaptive Equipment Scholarships Committee are individuals, some with visual and physical impairments themselves, who volunteer their time and talents.

Provides a guaranteed ride home program for employees of participating businesses and organizations. Employees purchase fare passes through payroll deduction on a before-tax basis. If they are stranded due to bus service no longer operating at a particular time or if in an emergency situation (family emergency, working late), they are guaranteed a ride home by bus or cab (up to four times a year).

Conducts multi-hazard planning for the communities that will enable them to mitigate, prepare for, respond to or recover from natural disasters, public health crises, terrorist incidents or other emergencies that occur within or have an impact on their area. Program offering a group setting to prevent the recurrence of violent situations in the family. The group provides participants with education and information that will help them cope with problems that often lead to violence.
