Accepts complaints and concerns about child care providers in the state of Ohio. Provides information, referrals and assistance on policy questions. Answers questions regarding all child care rules, researched issues concerning child care providers and assists with resolution. Can document complaints for investigation by ODJFS staff or local county agencies.

Assists in resolving complaints against registered cemeteries through mediation and conciliation.

Accepts and, where possible, attempts to resolve complaints regarding the licensing, incompetence, negligence, quality of service, excessive fees, fraud, misrepresentation, unprofessional conduct or other inappropriate business practices of accountants.

Provides the following permits, licenses, and inspectional services (individual department phone numbers are listed behind each description): rat and rabies control, environmental health, nuisance complaints, landfill, trash truck, well water, and septic inspections (225-4362); plumbing permits and inspections (225-4421); housing inspections outside of the Dayton city limits (225-4428); food service operator licenses, bar, grocery, restaurant, swimming pool, hotel, and mobile home inspections (225-4460); lead paint poisoning preventions programs, information about lead paint hazards, and inspections for the presence of lead paint in homes (225-5553); and vending machines, mobile home park, motel, and mobile food service inspections (225-5915).

Provides recreational boating safety tips, investigates consumer complaints about boats, issues product safety recalls, and maintains a database of boats that have been recalled. This agency regulates recreational watercraft. Boating recalls are NOT covered by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Provides grade ratings on businesses, customer reviews, and dispute resolution. Accepts reports of unfair business practices and handles buyer/seller disputes concerning a company's products and services. Trade Specialists will investigate the consumer's issue and attempt to reach out to the company in question in order to reach a fair resolution. Does not provide legal enforcement or prosecute - but will share information with the Ohio Attorney General and other law enforcement agencies where warranted. Handles customer concerns with businesses in the following categories (but service not limited to these categories): Home improvement/repair, non-government owned utility companies, insurance companies, mortgage companies, banking, charities, check cashing, child care, realtors, restaurants (but doesn't handle food safety issues), and for-profit tax preparers. For medical facilities or services, will only help to resolve issues related to billing or customer service; does not take complaints concerning allegations of malpractice or medical competency.

Enforces the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act and the Ohio Homebuyers’ Protection Act. Investigates complaints related to consumer protection laws and mediates disputes when warranted. Consumers may also look for information about complaints a company may have recieved through the Attorney General's Office as well as information as to how the dispute was resolved. Areas of inquiry include retail purchases, for-profit tax preparers, Internet auctions, pyramid schemes, advertising, business opportunities, home improvements, consumer credit, health spas, mail order businesses, new car parts, automobile repairs repairs, tax preparation companies, etc. Will investigate (and if warranted, prosecute) for-profit mortgage foreclosure counseling companies. Can take complaints on mortgage servicers concerning escrow issues and problems dealing with the application of payments. Cannot address complaints against mortage services concerning modifications or foreclosure issues. Cannot take complaints against banks. Does not provide legal advice or representation as a private attorney. Cannot handle consumer issues regarding the purchase of used cars, public utilities, doctors, lawyers, insurance, real estate, financial investments, and state agencies. Offers consumer tips, printed information, and presentations about consumer issues. May also search for lawsuits the office has filed against individuals and businesses that violate the state’s consumer laws.

The FCC addresses consumer complaints related to interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable.

Investigates and works to resolve complaints about long-term care in nursing homes, adult care homes, and community-based services.

Accepts and, where possible, attempts to resolve complaints regarding the licensing, incompetence, negligence, quality of service, excessive fees, fraud, misrepresentation, unprofessional conduct, or other inappropriate business practices of architects, landscape architects, and non-licensed persons.

Under certain circumstances, the agency may pursue legal action on these cases. Also accepts general complaints from consumers on certain aspects of long distance telephone billing disputes including: land line, wireless, and internet service. Under certain circumstances, agency may provide mediation between consumer and service provider, but will not pursue legal action. Otherwise, will direct caller to the proper agency.

Regulates and licenses charitable organizations within the State of Ohio. o.

Provides information about defects and recalls concerning motor vehicles, motorcycles, scooters, RVs, trailers, child safety devices (seats), and other motor vehicle parts and equipment and accepts and investigates complaints concerning them. Develops safety standards to ensure motor vehicle and traffic safety.

Enforces and takes complaints concerning Ohio's Lemon Law. The Lemon Law requires auto manufacturers to repair or replace a new motor vehicle that has a problem or problems, covered by the warranty, that substantially impair the use, value or safety of the vehicle. The lemon law covers problems that occur within the first year of purchase or the first 18,000 miles of the vehicle, whichever comes first. The law requires manufacturers to notify buyers of their right to compensation if a vehicle is defective and establishes a consumer’s right to be refunded if the vehicle is not repaired or replaced within a reasonable period. Consumers may also look for information about complaints a company may have recieved through the Attorney General's Office as well as information as to how the dispute was resolved. May also search for lawsuits the office has filed against individuals and businesses that violate the state’s consumer laws.

Licenses and inspects body art establishments. Body art services include: tattooing, permanent cosmetics, and body piercing.

Accepts and, where possible, attempt to resolve complaints regarding safety, sanitation and/or licensing issues at a salon, barbershop, tanning facility, or a cosmetology or barber school.

Responsible for enforcing certain federal laws related to banking, including the Truth in Lending Act, the Community Reinvestment Act, and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act. Accepts complaints about state-chartered banks that are members of the Federal Reserve System from bank customers experiencing discriminatory treatment or deceptive actions covered by these laws. If contacted regarding an institution that is not part of the Federal Reserve System, will refer to the proper regulator. Cannot resolve contract disputes or matters that are the subjects of pending lawsuits. Problems with individual banks regarding customer service or specific bank policies are not addressed by federal law or regulation and may not be covered by the laws mentioned above.

Accepts complaints concerning on-site and in home child care providers as well as preschool programs. In many cases, will help the client determine which agency licences/accredits the provider and then guide them through the complaints process for that particular agency.

Avocates for residents of long term care facilities. Assists nursing home and group home residents with asserting their rights and with problems concerning Medicare, Medicaid, and social security. Handles complaints of long term care services provided in home and community settings. Promotes volunteer visitation and advocacy services.

Listens and independently investigates concerns from families and youth directly impacted by Ohio's children services system. As an independent investigator, an Ombudsman does not provide legal advice or operate as an adversarial agent working on behalf of any one party to a reported conflict. In some cases, a specialist may refer the client to a contact that handles specific issues concerning services in a specific county.

Advocates for long-term care consumers, including residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities, group homes, as well as clients receiving in-home or community-based care services. Services include: complaint investigation regarding client rights violations, poor care and services, etc.; advocacy services; and general information and education.

Ensures the safety of all amusement rides within the state of Ohio. Provides assistance for consumers who want to report health and safety hazards encountered at traveling carnivals, fairs, theme parks, water parks, penny arcades, or other amusement parks.

Advocates for people receiving nursing home care, assisted living care and home care services. Investigates and attempts to resolve all types of complaints about care and services. In some cases, may mediate disputes between patients and their health care service provider. Provides information on long-term care options, laws, and regulations.
