Hair must be a minimum of ten inches in length and in a ponytail or braid, but does not accept bleached hair, wigs, or synthetic hair. Participating salons will cut hair free of charge for those who are donating their hair to Locks of Love.

Locks of Love provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 21 years and younger suffering from long-term medical hair loss. They meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no know cause or cure. The prostheses provide help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
