Offers a consumer helpline that provides direct assistance to older adults and people with disabilities as well as their friends, family and caregivers. In addition, we provide information and assistance to professionals serving people with Medicare. Trained helpline counselors respond to questions about available health plan options, rights and benefits, and can also help you get the care and medications you need. When appropriate, our staff represents clients who cannot secure the care or coverage they need on their own.

Evaluates health care cases related to Medicaid or Medicare (denials, terminations)and delays in processing applications; applicants waiver services (in-home health supports, nursing, or aide services) have been reduced, denied or terminated; overpayments where collection of overpayment creates a risk that other benefits will be taken to collect the overpayment; problems with Medicaid/Medicare for currently or formerly incarcerated individuals.

Provides a free online database with detailed information about Medicare-certified providers and compares care quality for nursing homes, doctors, hospitals, hospice centers, home health agencies, and more.

Accepts allegations of fraud, waste, mismanagement or abuse concerning programs of the department. Programs include Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start, Services for Native Americans, health care equipment providers, institutional health caregivers, and grant and contracts. Also accepts reports of suspected crimes by federal department employees or contractors.

Enrollment is mandatory for people who are 18 or older, reside in Ohio and currently receive services from both Medicaid and Medicare. Once enrolled in a MyCare Ohio plan, a care manager is assigned to be the primary contact for all health care, behavioral health and long-term care needs. MyCare Ohio streamlines services so only one phone number has to be called to talk with someone about Medicare and Medicaid benefits. MyCare Ohio is administered by the Ohio Department of Medicaid.
