HSDC arranges for temporary placement of homeless animals who are awaiting adoption or who are too wild and need gentling prior to being adopted.

The Safe Haven Program offers emergency shelter for pets of victims of domestic violence in Franklin county. Temporary shelter is available as space allows.

Volunteer puppy raisers called "Co-Pilots", provide housing, care, training, and love for puppies from the time they are 8-10 weeks old until the age of about 18 months (or until requested back by Pilot Dogs). If you aren’t able to commit that much time, there are always flexible options, like part-time, recurring puppy sitting, or Co-Piloting for the summer.

No equine is ever turned away. We accept equines of all types and conditions for rehabilitation, retraining and ultimately for placement in a new home. We also can hold and evaluate equines for cruelty investigations and provide testimony for those situation.

Provides funds for eligible organizations to build or renovate spaces dedicated to housing survivors' pets, begin a foster program to care for survivors' pets, pay for temporary boarding for survivors' pets or a combination of services that serve the community. Funds may also be used for routine veterinary care, emergency veterinary care, and pet deposits.

Services include adoptions of dogs and cats; discount programs for pet neutering/spaying; lost and found registry of pets; training class for dogs; pet therapy in nursing homes; foster home program for stray animals; dog licensing; humane education program for children; and a speakers bureau.

Provides emergency, temporary boarding for pets of individuals in homes experiencing domestic violence. Screening is done on a case-by-case basis, and assistance is not guaranteed in every situation due to space constraints. Assistance is generally for no longer than 14 days.

Provides doing a Foster-to-Adopt trial period as a great way to learn if the dog is a good fit for your family prior to committing to adoption. When you Foster-to-Adopt, you take the dog(s) home for 14 days before deciding whether the relationship is meant to be. Provides a foster ambassador program which includes caring for and marketing dogs who are available for adoption, Provides medical and behavioral fosters which include dogs who need to heal before becoming available for adoption or puppies who are not old enough for adoption.

Designed to give puppies the early experience they need to be someone's reliable companion. Puppies are placed with their Foster Family until they are ready to begin formal training, usually between the ages of 15 to 18 months. While the Foster Home will be supplied with a list of responsibilities, the most important will be providing love and care. All that is required is reliability, a willingness to learn, and the desire to help someone else. Currently need to find 150 new Foster Puppy Homes around the country.

Offers limited time pet foster care for those who are temporarily unable to care for their pet. All animals placed in care will recieve vaccinations and/or spay/neuter if they have not already been (provided at no charge to the client). Families are given regular updates on how their companions are doing by volunteer program coordinators.

Provides shelter for dogs, cats, and other pets whose owners are in transition and are temporarily unable to care for them.

Provides funds to pay to shelter pets for eligible individuals in domestic violence situations. Pays to board a pet in a private boarding kennel. Assistance may include fees for any vaccinations needed by the pet in order to enter a kennel.
