Responsible for the control and extinction of fires in urban or wilderness areas; the inspection of buildings and hillside property to ensure potential fire hazards; and the maintenance of equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur.

Dispatches officers to the scene of incidents where citizens need non emergency assistance (call 937-433-7661). Also investigates crimes and reports of missing persons, fingerprints arrestees, and investigates incidents of alleged police misconduct.

Provides information about defects and recalls concerning motor vehicles, motorcycles, scooters, RVs, trailers, child safety devices (seats), and other motor vehicle parts and equipment and accepts and investigates complaints concerning them. Develops safety standards to ensure motor vehicle and traffic safety.

Maintains the National Injury Information Clearinghouse, conducts investigations of alleged unsafe or defective products, and establishes product safety standards. Assists consumers in evaluating the comparative safety of products and conducts education programs to increase consumer awareness. Operates the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, which monitors a statistical sample of hospital emergency rooms for injuries associated with consumer products. Maintains free hotline to provide information about recalls and to receive reports on unsafe products and product-related injuries. Provides information to the public about appliances, clothing, electronics, electrical power devices, furniture, household products, lighting/lighter products, sports/exercise equipment, toys, and other consumer products that are subject to voluntary or mandatory recall or about which safety concerns have been registered.

Butler Township Fire Department is responsible for providing services in the following areas of fire fighting: emergency medical (including paramedic level), technical rescue (trench, building collapse, high angle, etc.), hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, fire inspection, fire investigation, public safety education, and many other specialized services.
