Waste Management / Recycling | Darke County Solid Waste District

Provides and manages recycling drop-off sites and assists residents in finding alternative recycling resources. Operates recycling programs in area schools. Offers recycling and community clean-up events and hosts special events for electronic, pharmaceutical, and hazardous household waste collection, as well as used tire collection and document shredding. Investigates reports of illegal dumping, littering, and burning. Develops environmentally safe solid waste management plans to achieve Ohio's goals for waste reduction, recycling, and solid waste management in the region. Helps communities and businesses implement cost-effective and environmentally safe solid waste management practices. DOES NOT RECYCLE TELEVISIONS BUT GIVES REFERRALS TO AREA FOR-PROFITS THAT WILL RECYCLE THEM FOR A FEE.

The Harold Terry Clark Library | Cleveland Museum Of Natural History

Provides a specialized library of over 60,000 volumes focusing on the natural sciences. The library currently receives 650 different titles of periodicals through subscriptions, gifts and inter-institutional exchanges. Also has a large collection of maps, reprint and pamphlet files, slides and audio materials, and some extremely rare book collections of Audubon, Gould, Curtis and North-American Indians. In addition, houses archival records about the Museum, professional papers, and special collections about people/events associated with the Museum.

Waste Management / Recycling | Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District

Provides an environmentally safe solid waste management plan to achieve Ohio's goals for waste reduction, recycling, and solid waste management in Geauga and Trumbull County. Helps communities and businesses implement cost-effective and environmentally safe solid waste management practices. Provides information about where to drop off recycling including places (such as scrap metal yards) that pay for recyclable materials (such as aluminum cans). Offers community locations to drop-off standard household materials for recycling. Drop-off locations accept plastics, glass, and metals generally used for food or beverages (i.e. plastic milk jugs, glass pickle jars, steel vegetable cans), bottles, cans and cardboard/paper products.

Conservation Education-Public Involvement And Public Education | Cuyahoga Soil And Water Conservation District

Offers a variety of formal and informal education for students, teachers and targeted publics throughout the year. Programs and materials are typically focused on an annual theme, but mostly related to water quality and habitat. The agency also has portable displays and tools. Topics include but are not limited to soil and water conservation, watersheds, water quality, and wildlife. Workshops provide educators with the resources and know-how to teach children about environmental issues. May provide graduate credits to participants, as well as Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) for attending workshops. Schools within the NEORSD Service Area can utilize services to obtain storm water utility credits.

Provides a resource center as well as special continuing education and professional development workshops/seminars and conferences about topics such as the environment, global security, conflict management, classroom management, and cultural diversity. Maintains a resource library with materials available to the public and teachers. Holdings include materials about active teaching, arms control, conflict resolution, critical thinking, diversity, energy issues, environmental concerns, global security, international relations, military spending, multicultural issues, nuclear power and proliferation, nuclear waste, war and peace, youth violence, and bullying prevention. A program about environmental issues includes use of a large balloon and exercises to develop awareness about the environment.

Provides presentations and demonstrations to school children. Topics include watersheds, soil properties, erosion, pollution, and land use issues, and are presented in ways fun and engaging to the audience age group. Will tailor presentations to specific curricular needs. Helps plan, organize, and implement additional activities and events covering many conservation related topics. Can also arrange for student field trips to local streams, and provide equipment to test water quality in them. An in-class presentation on macroinvertebrates is also available to help prep students for this adventure.
