Provides specialized services to the community during and after natural disasters, epidemics, accidents (fires, chemical spills, broken water or sewer structures), and potential bio-terror attacks. Participates in disaster preparedness exercises and simulated emergencies to evaluate and better coordinate local emergency response.

Provides transportation to evacuate an endangered area in the event of a natural disaster per Lake County EMA.

Provides tips for safely cleaning up after a flood.

Provides outreach prevention programs to schools and community groups and individuals. Topics include, but are not limited to crime reduction, school and community violence, Internet safety for children, identity theft, and terrorism.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live. CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as: fire safety, light search and rescue , team organization , and disaster medical operations.

Responsible for the control and extinction of fires in urban or wilderness areas; the inspection of buildings and hillside property to ensure potential fire hazards; and the maintenance of equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur.

Provides coordination of emergency response, homeland security, crisis response team, citizen corp, medical reserve corp and (CERT) Community Emergency Response Team.

Provides weather forecasting and advisories for Ashland, Huron and Richland counties. Also provides SKYWARN storm stopper training for area volunteers.

Perry County CERT is a group of trained individuals that are prepared to respond to both natural and man-made disasters. CERT educates the community about disaster preparedness CERT is a 20 hour course designed to teach citizens how to take care of themselves and their neighbors for 72 hours (3 days). Teaches basic first aid, fire suppression, search and rescue, and preparedness. With this course, citizens can be part of the County Team to help people after disasters and assist emergency responders.

Provides a program that increases public awareness of the measures that people can take before, during and after major disaster or wide-scale emergency

Provides preparedness information, planning, and volunteer training for disasters such as tornados, floods, extreme heat, thunderstorm, winter storms, etc.

Facilitates training of first responders, government and medical personnel and some classes for the general public.

Provides training to enhance the level of overall preparedness of government organizations, community based agencies, businesses, individuals, and families to respond to a large-scale emergency that disrupts the normal functioning of a community.

Offers printed information and will answer general questions about how to handle disasters and emergency situations such as tornadoes, extreme heat, thunderstorms, winter storms, hazardous materials, and floods. Provide public speakers who can speak to groups about these issues.

Offers various community crime prevention and safety programs: security evaluations, vacation security checks, fire inspections and crime prevention programs for citizens.

Provides free radon kits and potassium iodine pills. Ensures protection of the community from unnecessary radiation exposure.

Conducts multi-hazard planning for the communities that will enable them to mitigate, prepare for, respond to or recover from natural disasters, public health crises, terrorist incidents or other emergencies that occur within or have an impact on their area. Also addresses citizen awareness and self-sufficiency, responder capabilities, interagency cooperation in emergency operations and the roles, responsibilities and activities of public and private organizations and their staffs in all phases of the disaster.
