Local chapter members learn leadership skills and electoral practices by electing officers of the group. Monthly meetings are focused on topics related to disability advocacy and building self-advocacy skills. There are also monthly volunteering opportunities and regular social events to offer further connection to the community.

Provides disability outreach and support services for families directly affected by developmental disabilities. Services include education, parental support, links to health care and other resources, referrals and mentoring services.

Provides education programs to schools and other organizations about Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) prevention and awareness.

Provides information to parents, relatives, etc. regarding Down Syndrome. Works to enrich the lives of all individuals with Down Syndrome. Increase public awareness of individuals with Down syndrome regarding their desires, and abilities.

Provides counseling (individual and group), medication monitoring, and psychiatric disorder diagnosis and counseling. In addition, agency contracts with schools and other agencies to train staff on mental illness in deaf individuals. Works in collaboration with staff of other agency programs (children's and counseling programs) to serve client needs.

Offers Independent Living services for individuals with disabilities. Provides peer support, assistance with finding housing, benefit applications counseling, training in daily living skills, assistance with transition from nursing homes to the community, training in how to employ personal care assistants, and other services to help individuals with disabilities to function at their maximum level of independence within the community setting.

Provides customized disability awareness presentations for schools, community/service groups, churches, and businesses. Uses a variety of instructional materials including disability dolls, literature, videos, and hands-on activities that simulate disabilities. Also offers interactive and educational Kids on the Block puppet shows to 3rd grade classes.

Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities offers a disability awareness program called A.P.P.L.E. This program is provided in various settings, such as school classrooms, community businesses, social groups, churches, and other types of places.

American Disabilities Act (ADA) Contract and Consulting Starting January 2020: Offers training and technical assistance throughout Ohio on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Assists with ADA surveys, provides assessments and will help with the development and implementation of transition/compliance plans.

Provides informational classes to educate and sensitize the community on mental health and physical and cognitive disabilities or impairments. Includes discussions, videos and guest appearances by persons with disabilities.

A 1/2 day educational event, featuring speakers, a vendor display area and more.

Provides early childhood development programs to children ages birth to five from income eligible (low-income) families. Children attend early childhood centers as well as learn about computers, art, science, music, and more. Home-based services are also available as an alternative to center-based services.

Work with Individuals with disabilities to train and develop personal strengths, master living skills, overcome barriers, and utilize technologies and resources allowing them to continue living independently and productively within their home and community. The agency strives to train in the areas of assistive technologies, and work with suppliers to advocate for and represent our consumers. We also do a minimal amount of direct services.

Provides an interactive training designed to educate and provide useful resources to businesses or organizations looking to gain a better understanding about disability. On site or at The Ability Center.

Provides a variety of education programs through public and parochial schools; programs include special education, tobacco, drug and alcohol prevention, before and after school and summer enrichment and extended learning, youth employment services, and preschool services.

Provides family grants, education and community outreach and family friendly activities including our annual 5K Run/Walk for Autism Awareness and Autism Friendly Holiday Party.

Offers several community programs to promote awareness and support of Down Syndrome. Programs include activities and programs for children and adults with Down Syndrome, programs and events for family members of those with Down Syndrome, education for the medical and educational communities, and community information sessions.

Services focus on the inclusion of children with disabilities and include helping families find child care and preschool programs, workshops, information and referral, as well as training and on-site consultation for teachers/professionals.
