Burial/Cremation Expense Assistance
Indigent residents of the City of Newark only. If individual is proven to be indigent and family can be located, they are required to meet with a funeral director for preparation of the deceased before calling Cedar Hill for cremation. If no family can be located, the coroner will contact Cedar Hill to proceed. Cremation services only are provided, along with a basic service, no calling hours, and ashes are buried at Cedar Hill. If family prefers to take ashes home, Cedar Hill will pay only for the cremation. Special circumstances apply to veterans, but must be arranged through VA first.
Provides financial assistance to families with a deceased person due to COVID-19. FEMA will continue to provide funeral assistance until Sept. 30, 2025, to those who have lost loved ones due to this pandemic.

This ministry is available through an Aspire Ministries partner church. This ministry will provide care to grieving families in their time of need by providing funds for cremation, a pastor will be available for the funeral, funeral home, and graveside service. A funeral dinner may be provided for the family. A referral helps as it will speed up our intake process to make it easier on the family.

Assistance may be available for clients who have no resources to pay for burial/cremation and who do not qualify for the Indigent Burial Program through their local municipality.
Provides financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.
FEMA will reimburse the families of COVID-19 victims for funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020. They will start accepting applications in April and that applicants must have a death certificate, funeral expenses documents and proof of funds received from other sources, like burial or funeral insurance. Assists veterans with little or no income in a variety of ways: provides food and clothing vouchers, which are only honored in Cuyahoga County, in emergency situations. In certain circumstances, provides assistance with paying for rent, rent deposit, mobile home lot rental fees, and utility payments (gas, electric, and water). Will help with transportation expenses (which is usually in the form of bus passes). Does not help with property taxes, car insurance, or car payments. Assists with up to $999 in burial expenses for indigent veterans.
