Provides inspection of vehicles to determine compliance with state law regarding safe condition for operation upon the roadway. Certified inspection officers perform checks of all vehicle safety features, including lights, wipers, horn, turn signals, glass, brakes, etc. Upon passing inspection, vehicle owner will be provided a completed Kentucky Application for Certificate of Title/Registration Form which may be taken to the County Clerk to obtain a Kentucky license plate.

Conducts inspections which offer guidance regarding child passenger safety seats and the law, choosing a car seat that is appropriate for a particular child's height and weight, correct car seat installation and restraining a child in a car seat.

Provides a two week, two hours each day safety program for children who are eligible to be enrolled in kindergarten in the fall. Has special sessions for mentally handicapped children. Also performs on-site Child Seat Inspections by a trained team of police officers during the program period.

Provides child safety seats and booster seats to eligible low income families

Offers assistance installing child safety seats owned by residents into residents' personal vehicles at no cost.

Responsible for control and extinguishing of fires in an urban setting; provide emergency medical services to the community the inspection of buildings and property to eliminate potential fire hazards; provide community wide fire safety, first aid, CPR, and life safety education; and training of firefighters and emergency medical technicians to maintain high quality of service in a timely manner.

Provides a variety of services directed to educating the public about crime prevention. Community policing program includes activities for children such as sports, hobbies, and outings. Crime Prevention Officer is available to speak to interested groups. Encourages and assists neighborhoods to organize neighborhood associations, which meet to learn how to discourage preventable crime in their areas. Also has a program of stickers installed by the police which alert patrols to cars being driven at unusual hours which may have been stolen. Offers vacation security checks of homes for residents who are out of town. Sponsors a bike rodeo each year where children have bike safety tests, can ride a bike course, are fitted for helmets, etc.

Child seat safety Inspections are performed by appointment, generally between 3pm and 11pm, but other times may be available. Information provided during the inspections includes safety seat recalls, proper installation, appropriate seats for a child's age, and other helpful information.
