The Advocates for Families CASA Program is seeking caring adults to volunteer in Knox County. Volunteer duties include making contact with the child once a month; full case investigation reviewing all relevant documents; meet with anyone who has information regarding the child, including but not limited to case workers teachers, medical professionals; maintain written documentation: maintain complete confidentiality; attend all court hearings and meetings; complete annual continued education hours as required by Ohio Supreme Court Rule 48 guidelines. NOTE: CASA supervisor walks alongside each volunteer throughout the life of each case.

CAC has programs that provide therapeutic interventions for individuals and/or families who are experiencing child abuse including abandonment, neglect, or emotional, physical or sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or other family or extended family member whom the child trusts and who is in a position of power over the child.

Providing information, service programs and volunteer opportunities; system advocacy for children, legal issues and other related issues, CASA recruits, trains and supervises concerned community members to serve Butler County Juvenile Court as Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteers

During a child abuse investigation, experts from several agencies must talk with the child. Before the CAC existed, children were taken back and forth among child welfare offices, police departments, medical clinics, and therapists. At each visit, the child was asked to retell his/her story. The process not only duplicated investigative efforts, it also made children relive their experience over and over. The CAC centralized all the experts who must talk to the child. Children now need to come to only one place to talk to those investigating their abuse. They are interviewed by a forensic interviewer who has been specifically trained in this area. All interviews are recorded. The investigation is streamlined, information is shared and decisions are based on more expert information. In addition, services such as medical evaluations and counseling are coordinated via the CAC. As a result, children are able to begin their healing process faster. Disciplines work together to conduct interviews and make team decisions about investigation, treatment, management and prosecution of child abuse. A multidisciplinary team approach brings all of the disciplines together to offer comprehensive services to children and their non-offending family members. In addition, the CAC believes it's important to provide our community with the tools and resources to prevent child abuse and neglect. Community awareness and presentations provided by the CAC are devised to increase awareness of abuse, prevention, provide parent education, and provide safety information to families and children. Our trained facilitators provide free Stewards of Children Workshops. Adults that attend will learn new skills to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

The CAC serves as a centralized location for interviewing and examining children who are survivors of sexual abuse. The children are interviewed by specially-trained forensic interviewers, and cases are managed by a multi-disciplinary team comprised of Athens County Children Services, Athens County prosecutors, law enforcement officers, mental health counselors, victim advocates, and medical professionals. Goals of the CAC: - Reduce trauma and expedite recovery for children impacted by sexual assault - Increase child safety by conducting forensic interviews and medical exams in one location - Increase success of prosecution of those who sexually abuse children - Support the victim and non-offending family members by offering comprehensive services, such as long-term case management services - Increase the effectiveness of services to child abuse survivors - Prevent further child abuse through community education.

Recorded and shared with appropriate professionals, such as law enforcement, Children Services, prosecutor, physician, etc. * Sexual assault medical exam on site, with pediatric SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) nurse. All exams reviewed by Dr. Paul McPherson from Akron Children's Hospital. * Case Manager provides victim's advocacy, with referrals and information to additional community resources.
