Advocates respond to area emergency departments to provide crisis intervention and support to victims of sexual violence regardless of whether an offender is identified and/or prosecuted. Advocates work with families who have lost a loved one to a homicide and offer a monthly support group. Additionally, advocates are located at CARE House to provide services to child victims of physical and sexual abuse. Advocates are available to provide court advocacy and an explanation of the criminal justice process. Eligible victims are notified of and provided information and assistance concerning the Victim Compensation Program. Advocates also provide assistance to victims on post-conviction issues including parole hearings.
