Insures proper handling of solid wastes and hazardous materials including radiative substances, toxic fumes, and explosives. Offers information and education about environmental issues such as air quality, water quality, water supply, and others. Handles non-emergency complaints about violations of state's environmental protection laws. Examples of complaints include (but are not limited to) smoke or heavy dust emissions from industrial facilities, illegal dumping, burning of trash or tires, drinking water issues, destruction or draining of wetlands, and discharging industrial or agricultural waste into water or storm sewers. Offers opportunities for citizens to participate in public advisory groups, public information sessions, and public hearings. Can provide information regarding lead in water including if the area is under an advisory and/or what actions one can take.

National Response Center | United States Coast Guard

Provides point of contact to report known and suspected incidents of terrorism on US soil. Once terrorism has been reported, this office serves as a conduit to inform state and local officials. Also investigates hazardous materials discharges.

Waste Water Management | Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District

Operates as a regional wastewater treatment agency that transports and treats wastewater in the Greater Cleveland area. Regulates storm and sanitary collection facilities, operates three waste water treatment plants, and maintains major sewer intercepts within the larger sewer system. Monitors the water quality at area beaches and posts the results for the public on the agency website and through signage at beaches. Accepts complaints about illegal dumping into the sewer system and odors coming from the sewers. Responsible for the development and implementation of a regional storm and flood control plan. In case of basement flooding, will send an inspector to the site to determine if blockage or break is in the main sewer line (for example, the storm sewer in the street) or on private property (from the curb to the house). Can only address issues with Sewer District owned sewer line. The sewer line from the curb to the house is the homeowners' responsibility.

Develops environmentally safe solid waste management plans to achieve Ohio's goals for waste reduction, recycling, and solid waste management in the region. Helps communities and businesses implement cost-effective and environmentally safe solid waste management practices. DOES NOT RECYCLE TELEVISIONS BUT GIVES REFERRALS TO AREA FOR-PROFITS THAT WILL RECYCLE THEM FOR A FEE.

Public Health - Inspection And Remediation - Health Nuisances | Ross County Health District

Provides inspection or education on methods of clean-up regarding a variety of health hazards in the home environment. Topics include the hazards of: high grass over 8", trash & debris, stagnant water, insect infestation, lead, illegal dumping reporting in public and privately owned lots, rodent control, (inspector places poison in animal burrows outside the house), mold (especially regarding black mold that grows on water-soaked cardboard and unpainted wood), as well as inspections and licensing of public establishments in order to enforce existing health codes. Inspects tenants' homes for bedbugs and cites landlords but will not inspect homeowners. NOTE: Homeowners who request assistance with rodent control or home sanitation may be cited for corrective action if the health inspector decides the situation warrants.
