Provides a safe supply of water to more than 8000 homes and businesses in the county. As with all community water systems, the county system must comply with rules established by the Safe Drinking Water Act. The Water Department treats the water and monitors the water at many points within the system to assure the customers’ safety. The employees of the Water Department are dedicated to providing the customers with the highest quality water service. Operates the city water and sewer departments for the city of Amherst. Bills water, sewer, and electric. Monitors water quality; reads meters; repairs water service lines, main lines, meters and hydrants. Provides residential and commercial water taps, manages the water tower and protects the resident’s overall water quality. Monitors sewage collection and flow, repairs and maintain sewer lines, monitors and maintains lift stations, and facilitates municipal sewage removal.
