The education/information function of the Fair Housing Program is the major tool used to increase public awareness of the laws and citizens' rights. This function is provided through numerous activities such as newspaper articles, public seminars, continuing education programs, brochures, speaking engagements, information booths at community fairs, home information demonstrations, and any other means that reach the public. Information is also provided to the community regarding government housing, available rental housing, Section 8 guidelines, and any other housing related resources that will assist clients in obtaining the housing of their choice.
Students provide representation to people facing eviction, needing assistance to assert the right to habitable housing, assistance in recovering a security deposit or defending damage suits. Primary responsibility for negotiating with either the opposing party or their counsel and representing the client in the eviction hearing.
