SEOLS provides help on education issues, including: - Special education - School suspensions - Getting a school to follow an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Offers an information line to answer basic legal questions.
Provides free legal information, advice, brief service, and referral for residents of Ohio over age 60. The Legal Helpline responds to the legal needs of callers within Ohio, regardless of income or location. Typical questions concern Medicare, Medicaid, Medicaid estate recovery, living wills, durable powers of attorney for health care, and consumer problems such as fraud and overcharging for home repairs.
Offers assistance in dealing with the justice system to individual victims of domestic violence (including elder abuse), stalking or related crimes. Includes information on the legal process, safety planning, and planning for next steps in the legal process. Advocates are not attorneys but have access to lists of attorneys who are knowledgeable about domestic violence. Advocates are assigned to the criminal municipal courts and are available assist victims with the criminal court process, including temporary protective orders. Accompaniment to court is provided to victims who live in the areas served. Accompaniment services are available for victims with criminal complaints, child custody cases, juvenile court cases if the parents have been together but never married, divorce cases, and domestic relations cases. Those who are clients may have access to donated cell phones to use in emergencies.

If the legal problem cannot be solved over the phone, the client may be referred to a private attorney who can provide the service. Also offers pamphlets on a variety of legal topics.

Provides impartial conflict mediation services to assist in Tenant/Landlord Housing/Eviction related dispute resolution. An mediator works with all parties involved to develop a voluntary settlement that is acceptable to all involved. Situations handled include housing/tenant-landlord disputes (evictions, maintenance, deposits, alleged discrimination). Can assist before as well as after an eviction action is filed in court.
