Serves as a congressionally chartered war Veterans organization. Composed of combat Veterans as well as active-duty, Guard and Reservists. Offers financial assistance for unmet needs of active military service personnel, qualifying honorably discharged Veterans, and their immediate families.

The cornerstone of AMVETS membership is the local post.
