Offers a membership organization for veterans to join together on a voluntary basis to promote mutual interests and provide programs for the community. The cornerstone of AMVETS membership is the local post. Varying in size from 10 members to more than 2,000 in some cases, each AMVETS post conducts programs and activities related to the state and national organization’s goals and objectives.

The Arts Council brings to the county professionals in every arts discipline. It arranges concerts, performances, workshops, classes, and exhibits for the public including the elderly, handicapped, and economically disadvantaged. It develops special school and summer programming for children, a major focus of the Council since its founding. It encourages local artists in all fields, underwrites arts events for the community festivals and celebrations and provides incentives and recognition for arts achievement. Anyone who is interested may join, contribute, or participate. Countywide membership includes people of all ages and racial and ethnic backgrounds.
