Safeguards the heritage of the City of Mansfield by preserving areas, places, sites, buildings, structures, objects and works of art which reflect elements of the City's cultural, social, economic, political, architectural or archaeological heritage.

Provides consultation for individuals and organizations on privately owned art works and design problems.

Collects, researches, and preserves items and locations pertaining to Ashland County local history. Main campus consists of three houses: the Manor House, the Noonan House, and the Carriage House. The Freer Home at 1260 Center Street is also part of the Historical Society, but visitors should visit the main campus first.

Provides an application process for buildings to be placed on the National Register Listing of Historic Places. Once on the list, may be able to receive tax credits and apply for grants for things like repairs and improvements.

Provides services that include the Historical/Environmental Review Section and Relocation Section; services include technical assistance to Community Development Corporations as well as funding assistance for development projects and environmental health programs.

Collects exhibits and provides education about original works of art from all periods. Includes temporary exhibitions, films, lectures, seminars, tours, library, and research and jazz concerts . Special tours of galleries are available for physically, visually, and hearing disabled persons.

Provides assistance to those who are renovating property of historical significance or are seeking information on the history of any property. Provides literature and guidance on specific types of renovation projects such as floor refinishing, paint color selection and preparation, stripping woodwork, and repairing windows.

Offers original buildings which illustrate the architecture and building forms while recreating the atmosphere and lifestyle of the era. Provides a wide variety of educational, interpretive, and special programming.

Provides free consultation and technical expertise to homeowners on a variety of repair, renovation and maintenance projects that also respect the architectural character of older homes in our community.

Primary purpose is to preserve, share, and advance the knowledge of the history of Richland County; to advocate when necessary for the preservation of threatened historically significant resources; and to secure the safe management and protection of resources that come under its jurisdiction guided by national standards and best practices. Supports the Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board for historic preservation issues. Is responsible for urban planning in the City of Lakewood.

Handles all urban planning, renewal, and zoning for the City of Euclid, and maintains public real estate maps.

Acquires, protects, and maintains objects that have significant historical, archeological, and cultural meaning to Greene County. Three floors of handicapped-accessible exhibits at the Brantley Carriage House Museum, the authentically restored Victorian Town House, and the historically significant Galloway Log House tell the Greene County story from prehistoric hunters to Tecumseh to Norman Vincent Peale.

Manages the city’s outstanding historic districts and resources. Includes the Historic Preservation Office, which is charged with managing building activity in the city's 18 historic districts and 59 individually listed properties. Provides technical assistance to property owners and potential buyers who would like to purchase historic properties.

Strives to strengthen our community by utilizing a foundation of historical preservation and downtown restoration. Provides the following benefits to the community: Protecting & strengthening the existing tax base; Increasing sales and returning revenues to the community; Creating a positive community image; Creating visually appealing and functional buildings; Attracting new businesses; Developing new housing opportunities in historic buildings; Creating new jobs; Increasing investment in the Downtown; and Preserving historic resources.
