Provides an after school learning lab with computers, reading materials, and tutors. Overall focus is on literacy. Includes: service learning, college and career exploration, health and wellness, social skills and self-esteem, recreation trips, among other services. Also offers a competitive summer arts program where girls work with professional artist/teachers in several areas of the arts including: music and poetry composition, creative writing, dance, acting, or graphic design. Girls write music and lyrics, choreograph, perform, and record a CD of their work. Live performance at end of summer.

Provides a wide variety of personal enrichment classes for children and adults of all ages. Offerings include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, business and financial management, computers, cooking, dance, fitness, tai-chi, yoga, health awareness, meditation, gardening, foreign languages, travel, self-defense, photography, babysitting classes, acting, car care, college preparation and job search strategies.

Every other week, local teens gather at Thurber Center to write, create, and explore ways to get their stories on paper. Whether it's a passion, or just a hobby, we invite any student in grades 9-12 to join us for an opportunity to spend time with others who also like to write.

Provides after school programs to youth in participating Cleveland schools and recreation centers. Program consists of 2 days of soccer and two days of creative writing and community service learning. Writing and Soccer coaches lead lessons with youth in team-based approach. Youth work towards a goal, such as developing a group poem to perform at the annual Poetry Slam, or to scores goals on the soccer field against participating Cleveland schools.

Adult Writing Workshops are held throughout the year and are designed for adults of all levels of writing experience. Each workshop and class typically covers a different topic and lasts 1-3 hours.

Provides several opportunities for individuals to participate in activities that increase wellness and creativity. Groups include a community garden, yoga, creative writing, a drumming circle, and art classes. Program includes an annual performance by the creative writers and drummers, and showing of artwork produced by participants.

Offers a wide variety of recreational activities for seniors including but not limited to, exercise classes, yoga, crafts, dominos, scrabble, Mah Jongg, walking, bowling, chess, bingo, line dancing, ballroom dancing, bocce, walking, writing/grammar instruction, tai chi, line dancing, woodshop, oil painting, book groups, choral sing-a-long, outings and trips, computer classes covering computer basics, e-mail, internet, Word and Excel. Also offers classes to all adults in woodworking, painting, and other arts and crafts.

Provides opportunities for writers to express ideas, hone skills, and earn commission on published pieces.
