Recreation program activities include golf, tennis, adult and youth athletic leagues including but not limited to soccer, flag football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball. Youth and adult activities and educational programs include summer camp, nature programs, arts & crafts and much more are on the schedule. Residents can travel to Urbana (north), Cincinnati (south), and Buck Creek State Park (east), from downtown following the multi-purpose trails. The Trail Walkers program,meets on Thursdays at 10:00, 9:00 am for the summer months, and highlights the multi-purpose trail system to promote fitness, fellowship and fun. Other activities such as golf, swimming, tennis, and special events take place at the many different parks in the county. The parks also provide areas for picnics, fishing, ice skating, horseshoes, playgrounds, athletic events and special event concerts and shuffleboard. Gorman Nature Center, which is the administrative headquarters of The Richland County Park District, features 150 acres of forests, fields, prairies, ponds and streams. The park provides over five miles of public trails close to the population centers of Richland County. Families and individuals are welcome on the trails or in the GNC Visitor Center and picnic areas. The naturalist staff sponsors weekly programs for the general public featuring a wide variety of natural history programs (wildlife, botany, astronomy, etc.), hikes, festivals, field trips, lectures and special events. Offers daily programs for schools, youth groups, garden clubs, senior citizens and service clubs. Public programs are listed in the "Friends of the Nature Center Newsletter."
