The Emergency Custodial Care for Children program provides emergency or temporary care for children who must be removed from their home because child abuse, neglect or dependency.

Provides temporary placement for children and youth placed in the custody of Summit County Children Services. Foster parents and other substitute caregivers work to meet the child and family's case plan goals for reunification. Services include foster home recruitment and training, ongoing education, training, and other collaborative services to promote child safety and reduce the length of time children remain in out of home care. Kinship placement is secured whenever possible to maintain family connectedness and minimize trauma.

Coordinates the recruitment, screening, and selection of prospective foster and adoptive parents.

Oversees providing safe, temporary homes for children who cannot safely remain in their own homes. Purpose of program is to reunify children with their families and/or to find other permanent living arrangements when children cannot return home.

The Children Services Unit investigates reports of abuse and neglect. This unit also assumes responsibility for dependent children. Reports of child abuse, neglect, or dependency are investigated with services provided in home, whenever possible, to maintain the family unit. Children at risk of harm may be placed in substitute care while risk factors are resolved with family. CHOICES, Inc., is a non-profit Foster Care, Independent Living, Home-Based Services (in home mental health services) agency. Provides home placements for youth ages 0-21 years old who have been determined dependent, abused, or involved with the juvenile justice system.
