Oversees providing safe, temporary homes for children who cannot safely remain in their own homes. Purpose of program is to reunify children with their families and/or to find other permanent living arrangements when children cannot return home.

Provides services to families that promote safe, healthy environments for children. Reports of child abuse, neglect, or dependency are investigated with services provided in home, whenever possible, to maintain the family unit. Children at risk of harm may be placed in substitute care while risk factors are resolved with family. Services also include adoptive placement of children and completion of adoptive home study for families wishing to adopt special need children.

Provides treatment foster care through the Buckeye Ranch's foster care network. Specializes in respite care, caring for medically fragile youth and working with teen moms and their infants.

Will work with youth who have moderate to severe mental/behavioral health problems, substance abuse issues, or special medical needs. Provides supportive services include counseling, crisis intervention, respite care. Recruits, trains, and provides supportive services to families who would like to work with this agency to provide foster homes.

Provides foster care for children who have been removed from the home by a county agency as well as hard to place children (such as those with behavioral issues, disabilities, or health issues). The children receive case management (to link them to appropriate community and medical services) and individualized services from a team of professionally-trained foster families and social workers. This program is intended as a short-term solution with the goal of reunifying the primary family whenever possible. Transition support for children who are aging out of the foster care system is also provided. Recruits and trains families who are interested in providing foster care to children with special needs.

Provides temporary placement for children and youth placed in the custody of Summit County Children Services. Foster parents and other substitute caregivers work to meet the child and family's case plan goals for reunification. Services include foster home recruitment and training, ongoing education, training, and other collaborative services to promote child safety and reduce the length of time children remain in out of home care. Kinship placement is secured whenever possible to maintain family connectedness and minimize trauma.

The Children Services Unit investigates reports of abuse and neglect. This unit also assumes responsibility for dependent children. Ongoing protective services to families and children identified to be a risk of further abuse or neglect. Foster care and adoption services are provided. Alternative Response is a form of practice in child protective services that allows for more than one method of response to accepted reports of suspected child abuse and/or neglect.
