Provides assessment, training, and treatment to improve hearing for those who are hearing impaired. Rehabilitation services focus on adjusting to hearing loss, making the best use of hearing aids, exploring assistive devices, managing conversations, and taking charge of communication. Also provides services to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. Speech disorders occur when a person has difficulty producing speech sounds correctly or fluently (such as stuttering) or has problems with their voice or resonance. Language disorders occur when a person has trouble understanding others, sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Social communication disorders may include problems communicating for social purposes (like greeting, commenting, asking questions), talking in different ways to suit the listener and setting, and following rules for conversation and storytelling. Swallowing disorders are feeding and swallowing difficulties, which may follow an illness, surgery, stroke, or injury.
