Presents educational programs as requested to groups and organizations within VA service area on a variety of topics related to VA Medical Center, Veterans' benefits, and many health/fitness issues. Two weeks notice requested to reserve a speaker.

Provides supplemental food card that includes staple foods, fruits and vegetables; nutrition education; breastfeeding education; support and counseling; and referral services to eligible women and children. During the summer also provides a one-time $30 supplemental voucher to a limited number of participants for fruits and vegetables from selected local growers (Farmers' Market Nutrition Program), available while supplies last. Also offers speakers who discuss the program and the value of good nutrition.

The Public Health Nursing Division provides important services to the residents of Highland County. Each of these programs is designed specifically to improve the health of our community. The Public Health Nursing Division prides itself in continuing to be an active and influential part of the community health care system. The Infectious Disease Program monitors various infectious diseases that are reported to our agency by health care providers, laboratories, and the community. Almost 100 infectious diseases are mandated by law to be reported to the health department. Our Public Health Nursing department monitors and analyzes data of these infectious diseases to identify trends such as increased incidence of disease “clusters" or "outbreaks", changes in medication-resistance disease patterns, and disseminating information derived from data analysis. Prevention, control, and providing education of infectious diseases is one of the most important aspects of the health department. Another program, sponsored by the Ohio Department of Health, is The Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps (BCMH). The BCMH program is devoted to providing assistance to eligible parents/guardians of children with special needs. A nurse at the health department is available to assist families with the application process, home visits to the child and/or family, and coordinating services. The Health Department provides immunizations for both children and adults. Check our clinic schedule for dates, times, locations and cost for immunizations. The Care-A-Van (CAV) is a unique service provided by the Health Department. The CAV is a mobile unit, providing preventative services to many areas in the community. Immunizations, laboratory services, blood pressure screenings, and diabetes screenings are just some of the services offered on the Care-A-Van. The Highland County Health Department is proud to be have been one of the first jurisdictions in the state to offer this type of mobile clinic to our community. These are just a few of the services the Public Health Nursing Division offers to the community.

Provides a national clearinghouse for the latest evidence-based information on ADHD. Also provides comprehensive information and support to individuals with ADHD, their families and friends, and the professionals involved in their lives.

Serves as a trusted resource, offering information about three major respiratory diseases that can be prevented through vaccines. Once updated 2024-2025 flu and COVID-19 vaccines become widely available, the site will also help people find a pharmacy near them.

Provides telephone information, referrals and support regarding any form of memory or thinking challenge. No diagnosis needed. Offers free information such as safety tips, suggestions for dealing with challenging behaviors, care options and medication. Also offers programs how to live a brain-healthy lifestyle, printed materials and information sessions about Alzheimer's and related disorders.

Provides a wide variety of personal enrichment classes for children and adults of all ages. Offerings include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, business and financial management, computers, cooking, dance, fitness, tai-chi, yoga, health awareness, meditation, gardening, foreign languages, travel, self-defense, photography, babysitting classes, acting, car care, college preparation and job search strategies.

Program offers educational videos, literature, and speakers bureaus to both professional and lay groups on cancer-related subjects.

Provides a series of nine workshops for parents/caregivers on healthy food choices and food resource management.

Provides support, resources, advocacy, education and opportunity for those with Down syndrome and their families throughout eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Protects community health by providing anonymous and confidential HIV testing (OraSure/Oraquick) and counseling, and encouraging behavioral changes that reduce the risk of AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases and tuberculosis. Services offered include outreach, pre and post-test counseling, counseling, referrals, information and condom distribution.

Provides Ryan White emergency financial assistance programs, HIV case management, HIV drug assistance program, Quality Management Program, Minority AIDS Initiative.

Provides holistic integrative health care and nutrition coaching, on site medical health services, including nutrition coaching and weight loss, management and reversal of chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and heart disease and getting to the root cause of your illness or disease also offers lab draw service (see below) for details

Services include: Linkage to HIV testing (confidential, but not anonymous) and pre/post-test counseling. Offers counseling for those who have been newly diagnosed. Also provides HIV support groups as well as "Peer Navigation". This program links people who are newly diagnosed or need a little extra support to manage living with HIV with experienced people who have had HIV a long time and are doing well.

The Alzheimer's Association is dedicated to patient and family information, education, support, advocacy, and research. Most services are free. Volunteers are needed for presenter opporunities, training will be provided.

Provides health and wellness initiatives, with opportunities for people to be fully involved in the community, participate in new experiences and build healthy lifestyles

Develops and/or disseminates information such as instructional resources, federal and state legal updates, statewide documents, a regional newsletter, and other items relative to the education of children with disabilities. Provides this information to parents, educators and agency personnel who work with children with disabilities.

Provides general first-aid training and CPR classes, fire safety to school children, extinguisher use, emergency evacuation procedures, juvenile fire-setting counseling, and general safety information. Provides general fire department responsibilities plus annual safety inspections for all businesses and public buildings.

Offers a one-hour orientation to the Resource Center and its equipment. Additional fees are charged for consultation on individual clients, assistance with set-up, and use of equipment or inservice training at a business site.

The Diabetes Education Program offers awareness and education to the community about risk factors related to diabetes and chronic illnesses associated with diabetes. The eight week program includes educational seminars, personal training and membership with the Miami County YMCA during the program and for six months after the progam is completed.

Provides local information related to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Offers a variety of services for the deaf. Services include: Interpreting and C-print services, advocacy and promotion of "equal accessibility", independent living skills training, mental health case management for the deaf, information and training about deafness and community resources, and family, individual, and couples counseling. Also assists in making phone calls writing and interpreting letters, etc. Sign language classes.

Support group for individuals/families impacted by COVID-19. Offer coping strategies, support network, mental health resources, grief support.
