Offers interactive, small group, evidence-based workshop that meets for eight (8) weekly sessions. Topics include managing fear of falling; physical risk factors for falls; developing habits, techniques, and strategies to prevent falls; and home safety. Participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, and learn evidence-based exercises that improve balance, strength, and flexibility.
Connects clients to information, resources and support. Emotional support resources for people with MS as well as family and carepartners, including support groups and ways to connect with others living with MS . Help through the complexities of finding a healthcare provider, benefits, insurance and access to coverage, prescription assistance, and employment . Resources to face financial challenges and plan for the future. Wellness strategies that can make an impact on quality of life with MS including diet, exercise, emotional well-being and connection to local wellness resources. Connection to the Society’s online library and educational programs, resources for health care providers, and the Society's magazine, Momentum. Assessment for personalized case management.

Genesis Emergency & Trauma Services is offering free home inspections throughout Muskingum County. Trained inspectors will assess homes for potential fall hazards. Program will make residents aware of potential fall hazards – like tripping on throw rugs or falling off step stools. The majority of falls happen to seniors living independently in their own homes – so being able to impact their safety while in their homes will potentially help prevent traumatic injuries. Community members who have their homes inspected will be eligible for one grab bar installed or one nightlight, free of charge. Grab bar installation will be available to any home with at least one person more than 65 years old.
Responsible for the control and extinction of fires in urban or wilderness areas; the inspection of buildings and hillside property to ensure potential fire hazards; and the maintenance of equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur. Also provides 24 hour emergency medical services. All firefighters are cross-trained as paramedics.

Program to help senior citizens who have fallen at home. Working in conjunction with local EMS, the home health division will follow up with senior citizens who have called EMS when they have fallen. KCHD will send a public health nurse to assess the home environment and the individual and then we can provide adaptive equipment if needed, offer recommendations, make referrals to other agencies and connect with the individual’s healthcare provider.

These classes are more in-depth than the SLIP program and include exercises to help with balance. The classes address the fear of falling, balance, and exercise. Classes meet once a week for eight weeks.
Officers will visit homes and businesses and provide tips on how to better secure your premises. An officer will walk through your dwelling and check items such as window and door locks. He/she will make recommendations regarding lighting and landscaping that could help deter a criminal.
