Facilitates commerce by assisting shippers of plant based commodities with various federal and state quarantines that restrict the movement of articles capable of harboring targeted pests. Provides inspections and phytosanitary certificates for shipments of grain, seed, logs, lumber, greenhouse plants, and other plant based commodities destined for other states or countries. Offers information on various plant pests and provides pest control by performing exotic invasive pest surveys to detect any new infestations through our Asian Long-horned Beetle, Emerald Ash Borer, Gypsy Moth, CAPS, and Apiary programs.

Provides inspection or education on methods of clean-up regarding a variety of health hazards in the home environment. Topics include the hazards of: high grass over 8", trash & debris, stagnant water, insect infestation, lead, illegal dumping reporting in public and privately owned lots, rodent control, (inspector places poison in animal burrows outside the house), mold (especially regarding black mold that grows on water-soaked cardboard and unpainted wood), as well as inspections and licensing of public establishments in order to enforce existing health codes. Inspects tenants' homes for bedbugs and cites landlords but will not inspect homeowners. NOTE: Homeowners who request assistance with rodent control or home sanitation may be cited for corrective action if the health inspector decides the situation warrants.

Provides information and answers questions about lice (Pediculosis) infestation, diseases passed by mosquitos, rabies, and ticks. Information includes types of animals/insects, symptoms, how they are transmitted and treatment. (Issues with bedbugs should be referred to individual county health departments.

Provides surveillance and control of mosquito and other pests.

Provides information on conditions that may be a public health hazard. Conditions may include improper storage of garbage, accumulation of animal waste, rodents or small areas of mold and moisture. May refer those who contact the agency to local authorities to investigate situations on a case-by-case basis.

Provides a hotline and website that offer resources on pest control measures. Trained pesticide specialists are available to discuss the risks of pesticide and non-emergency pest and pesticide-related health information. It is not a poison control center nor does it have regulatory authority.

UW 211 Greater Toledo

Provides inspections, permits and licenses of food services, wells, septic systems, manufactured home parks and public swimming pools. Provides inspections of properties when issues affect the public’s health, such as water, sewage, rodents, garbage and other unsanitary conditions. Provides information about pest control, mold removal and lead prevention. Also conducts education sessions on the programs it administers. Does not provide on-site inspections for household mold.
