Collects surface water samples to test for quality near these systems both at routine intervals and if a complaint is received. Also tests water from private wells upon request. Issues permits for new sewage systems and wells and alterations to existing systems, and inspects these upon completion. Verifies abandonment of sewage systems when sanitary sewer connection occurs. Verifies abandonment of private water systems.

Oversees the construction of potable water wells, springs, cisterns, and hauled water storage tanks for homes and facilities that provide drinking water serving an average of less than 25 people at least 60 days a year and have fewer than 15 service connections. Provides water testing, issues permits for alteration, new construction or abandonment of private water systems, and assistance for maintenance of systems.
