Environmental Health works to protect the public from the spread of rabies and educates the public of the dangers of rabies through monitoring of a nationwide immunization program, quarantine isolation and observance during bite cases (human and animal) and head submission for testing to the Ohio Department of Health. A Rabies Bite Form is available on the website www.miamicountyhealth.net/environmental-health-rabies-monitoring.
Tobacco cessation program to help pregnant women quit smoking and stay tobacco free after baby is born. Women who enroll in the program, quit smoking and remain tobacco free after the baby is born receive free diapers for 12 months (voucher to Walmart each month).

Investigates all incidents of animal bites in the county both wild and domestic. Issues 10-day quarantine orders to the owners of dogs, cats, and ferrets involved in bites to determine if the animal was exposed to rabies prior to the biting incident with a follow-up veterinarian check and rabies vaccination, if applicable. Submits animal specimens to the Ohio Department of Health Laboratory in Columbus for rabies testing.

Environmental Health is the application of sanitary principles in disease prevention. Activities aimed at the preservation and the improvement of the environment have historically been a major part of public health. Our activities include inspection, consultation, plan review, sample collection, education, persuasion and enforcement.
Investigates animal bites in accordance with state law. Upon receipt of an animal bite report the animal must undergo a ten day quarantine period, either on the premises of the owner or at a pound or kennel. The animal cannot be released without proper rabies vaccination. The bite victim will be notified of the results of the quarantine findings and advised on any further action necessary.

Routinely monitors communicable disease activity, investigates epidemic outbreaks, reports cases of infectious diseases to the proper authorities and takes appropriate measures such as isolation and contact tracing/notification to prevent disease transmission within Warren County.

Investigates and provides instruction on all animal bites as outlined by Ohio Administrative Code 3701-3-29. Provides rabies testing and vaccinations. Oversees quarantine process of animals being tested for rabies.
Provides a variety of services to assist with the identification and control of communicable diseases. Surveillance and follow-up is conducted by public health nurses on all communicable diseases reported to the health department by private physicians and hospitals.

Offers diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis (TB). Includes chest X-rays, skin tests, medication, lab work and outpatient medical services. If medication is required, a prescription will be written and filled on-site. Monitors the incidence of the disease within Cuyahoga County (physicians are required to notify this program within 24 hours of suspecting an active TB case). Admits those who have symptoms of active TB who otherwise cannot be isolated within their current environment, such as someone who is homeless (any hospital should admit someone under those circumstances).
