LCHD's epidemiologist, public health specialists and public health nurses collect, investigate, analyze and distribute information on the incidence and prevalence of infectious diseases, outbreaks, health events, zoonotic and vector-borne diseases and vaccine-preventable diseases in Licking County. Information about outbreaks or unusual disease incidences are distributed to our healthcare providers through Health Alert Network notifications.

Routinely monitors communicable disease activity, investigates epidemic outbreaks, reports cases of infectious diseases to the proper authorities and takes appropriate measures such as isolation and contact tracing/notification to prevent disease transmission within Warren County.

Provides protection of the public health by preventing the spread of rabies from wildlife to people, pets and other animals. Assists physicians in determining proper treatment for exposure victims.
Disease reporting, questions and concerns regarding infectious diseases and other public health emergencies, including nuisance complaints and animal bites.
Investigates reports of animal bites and exposure in an attempt to control the occurrence of rabies.
Investigates animal bites in accordance with state law. Upon receipt of an animal bite report the animal must undergo a 10-day quarantine period, either on the owner's premises or at a pound or kennel. The animal cannot be released without proper rabies vaccination. The bite victim will be notified of the results of the quarantine findings and advised on any further action necessary.
Provides information about the risk of Coronavirus to the public. Addresses questions about Coronavirus. Informs and prepares individuals to enact standard precautions to minimize the spread of Coronavirus. Provides information that includes more detailed data and information about coronavirus cases in the county.
Acts as the reporting agency for all reportable communicable diseases; conducts surveillance for the incidence and control of communicable diseases, and provides education on communicable diseases to the public as well as to institutions in the community.

Provides services that are directed toward IV drug users, crack users, and their sexual partners. Services provided through this program include: HIV and AIDS education, counseling, and testing; Hepatitis B testing; syphilis screenings; and blood pressure screenings. Every patient will also receive case management services.

Conducts surveillance of communicable diseases reported in Darke County in compliance with the Ohio Department of Health Infectious Disease reporting requirements and CDC recommendations. Contact investigation and follow-up is performed by a public health nurse following strict confidentiality guidelines.
Offers diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis (TB). Includes chest X-rays, skin tests, medication, lab work and outpatient medical services. If medication is required, a prescription will be written and filled on-site. Monitors the incidence of the disease within Cuyahoga County (physicians are required to notify this program within 24 hours of suspecting an active TB case). Admits those who have symptoms of active TB who otherwise cannot be isolated within their current environment, such as someone who is homeless (any hospital should admit someone under those circumstances).
