- Ensures human safety and protects the quality of the environment by regulating and preventing indiscriminate use of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and rodenticides. - Monitors pesticide and herbicide levels in food, humans, fish, wildlife and their environments. Investigates pesticide/herbicide accidents.

Provides sanctuaries for rare plants and animals in areas restricted to bird watching, hiking, nature study and photography. Permits may be required to access certain areas, especially for research and off-trail activities.

The program manager and program specialist provide presentations to schools & groups about recycling, composting, illegal dumping, reuse, reduce, buy recycled, and other solid waste issues.

Offers services to prevent the spread of communicable diseases as a result of environmental factors. Registered Environmental Health Specialists conduct inspections in the following program areas: food safety, sewage treatment systems, private water systems, public swimming pools, campgrounds, manufactured home parks, congregate settings, body art establishments, public health nuisances, and animal bites.

Provides enforcement of all laws and ordinances, preventing crimes, investigating criminal activity, apprehending, arresting, and detaining suspects, presenting evidence, regulating traffic, investigating traffic accidents, and engaging in other activities that protect lives and property and preserve peace.

Provide community officials and allied agencies with the organizational and technical assistance to effectively manage trees and the land on which they grow.

Responsible for the correct disposal of all private household sewage systems in a manner which will protect surface and groundwater from contamination. This division reviews, plans and regulates new and replacement sewage systems. Responsible for proper private water supply systems (such as wells, cisterns, etc.)

Helps landowners, operators and the community of Champaign County voluntarily conserve and improve their natural resources.

Provides a variety of gardening activities and opportunities designed to keep the neighborhood clean and to keep park gardens well-tended. Activities include a sale of plants, regularly scheduled park clean-ups and garden maintenance in Lincoln Park, and periodic lectures and information on topics of interest to local gardeners.

Provide Mahoning County residents that qualify with a stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer, bedding, and/or a crib. Services beginning April 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022.

Provides inspection and code enforcement of: plumbing, water, and sewer service; sewage; schools; water wells; camps; recreational areas; swimming pools; groceries; food services; trailer parks; and solid waste disposal. Also provides planning for land use with soil surveys and layouts; rabies control; and nuisance abatement.

Establishes and enforces standards to protect air and water quality (including lead in water), as well as solid and hazardous waste management and cleanup. Insures proper handling of solid wastes and hazardous materials including radiative substances, toxic fumes, and explosives. Offers information and education about environmental issues such as air quality, water quality, water supply, and others. Handles non-emergency complaints about violations of state's environmental protection laws. Examples of complaints include (but are not limited to) smoke or heavy dust emissions from industrial facilities, illegal dumping, burning of trash or tires, drinking water issues, destruction or draining of wetlands, and discharging industrial or agricultural waste into water or storm sewers. Offers opportunities for citizens to participate in public advisory groups, public information sessions, and public hearings. Can provide information regarding lead in water including if the area is under an advisory and/or what actions one can take.

Provides mowing, mulching, and litter services along Prospect Avenue. Businesses on surrounding streets may also request the service.

Educates the public about the importance of saving this important resource. Assists farmers and local officials with their farmland protection efforts and hosts an annual farmland preservation summit. Implements the Clean Ohio Agricultural Easement Purchase Program, the Ohio Agricultural Easement Donation Partnership Program, the Ohio Agricultural Easement Donation Program, and provides technical assistance to communities implementing the Agricultural Security Area program.

Provides a public education and awareness program dedicated to enhancing the attitudes and actions of the city of Mansfield. Programs include: Plant Pride, Not Litter; Adopt-a-Street; It's Just Somebody Else's Mess; Neighborhood Clean Ups; Rid Your Gutter of Its Clutter; Litter Free Events; Partnerships with Businesses; and Special Clean up Programs.

Provides an energy assistance program to help households use less energy while increasing the comfort of their homes. A home inspection is completed to determine the most cost-effective weatherization service for each home and provides a personalized energy management plan. Services may include safety inspections; tune up/repair of heating unit; insulation of attics, sidewalls, floors, and hot water tanks; low flow shower head and faucet aerators; pipe wrap; reduction of air leakage from major sources; replacement of inefficient refrigerators and freezers.

Offers guided and self-guided tours of the museum's interactive exhibits and displays including: That Kids Playce, Science Central, Hall of the Universe, the Discovery Zoo, the Fraze exhibits gallery, and the Caryl D. Philips Space Theater.

The Preble County Historical Society acquires, protects, and maintains for the enjoyment and edification of the current and future generations buildings, structures, objects, sites, or entire districts that have historical, archeological, conservation & environmental projects, hiking trails or cultural significance.

In conjuction with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA), provides oversight of generators, haulers, and treatment/disposal facilities to ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of infectious waste.

Funds are available to assist homeowners with the cost of repairing or replacing their failing household sewage treatment system (HSTS). The funds will be distributed on a first come, first served basis to eligible homeowners residing within Licking County with a HSTS in need of being repaired or replaced. Homeowners’ eligibility for this project will be based on their household income level. Homeowners will be required to submit their latest income tax return to LCHD to determine their eligibility level.
