Inspects and monitors drainage and sediment regulations on construction sites in Cuyahoga County in order to prevent pollution from storm water runoff and soil erosion. Offers technical assistance to developers, land owners, and municipalities in order to ensure compliance with state and federal permits such as: road layouts, stream, and wetlands protection, proper stream crossings, slope stability, natural resource inventory, and suggested site layout. Conducts and makes available county-wide soil surveys which may be of use to potential property buyers who need information on potential pollutant and/or water table information and to landowners when looking to site a building or before entering a lease for oil and gas drilling. Provides Watershed Coordinators who work in specific watershed areas to evaluate problems and then implement action plans to improve the watershed by working with all stakeholders of the watershed area. Additional information may also be provided regarding soil types, soil health and soil assessment.

Gives the opportunity for civic organizations, businesses, and individuals to volunteer to clean up a two (2) mile stretch of highway or an interchange at least four (4) times a year for two (2) years. The volunteer group is recognized with a sign along its section of the road.

Operates as a regional wastewater treatment agency that transports and treats wastewater in the Greater Cleveland area. Regulates storm and sanitary collection facilities, operates three waste water treatment plants, and maintains major sewer intercepts within the larger sewer system. Monitors the water quality at area beaches and posts the results for the public on the agency website and through signage at beaches. Accepts complaints about illegal dumping into the sewer system and odors coming from the sewers. Responsible for the development and implementation of a regional storm and flood control plan. In case of basement flooding, will send an inspector to the site to determine if blockage or break is in the main sewer line (for example, the storm sewer in the street) or on private property (from the curb to the house). Can only address issues with Sewer District owned sewer line. The sewer line from the curb to the house is the homeowners' responsibility.

Handles reports of environmental emergencies involving the releases of oil, hazardous chemicals, or radioactive materials into the air, land or water. Examples may include chemical spills on highways and in waterways as well as toxic emissions from industry or other environmental crimes/violations. Provides an emergency response team that offers coordination and technical assistance for hazardous material containment. Works in conjunction with the federal environmental protection agency to ensure investigation and cleanup of contaminated sites.

Provides a casual opportunity for hikers and nature lovers to see a thriving wetland area. Located in Bethel Township, Clark County, the 144-acre area is a nature preserve.

Local government branch that implements county wide solid waste management plans such as drop off and curbside recycling.

Provides monitoring and enforcing of air pollution regulations in Lucas County and the City of Rossford in Wood County; the following duties are performed - enforcing compliance of air pollution laws through inspections, testing and permit procedures, educating industry and the public about applicable regulations, and assisting in development of regulations based on community needs; also evaluates industrial and commercial compliance with all air regulations.

Provides a hotline for consumers to report violations of Ohio's smoking ban in public places and places of employment. This law requires that public places and places of employment be smoke free as of December 7, 2006, with enforcement beginning on June 7, 2007. Installs a compact fluorescent light bulb in client's refrigerator to conserve energy. Meters refrigerator and/or freezer (including deep freezers) energy use to determine if it is an "energy hog." If so, it will be replaced. Not an emergency program.

Inspects all public pools and spas for safety and health. Holds an annual training for pool operators. Both services are done to assure a safe and healthy swimming environment for the public.
