Fair Housing Program provides information and assists in the resolution of tenant landlord issues in the county.

Provides information and training to residents regarding landlord/tenant concerns and fair housing laws which prohibit discrimination because of race, color, religion, nationality, sex, handicap, family status, or military status.

Provides information and guidance about housing rights and Ohio tenant-landlord law for tenants experiencing difficulty maintaining their rental housing. Also offers advice regarding particular tenant-landlord disputes and advocates on tenants' behalves with their landlords when appropriate. Note: Housing placement/relocation assistance is not available.

Provides high quality, legal assistance in civil matters to help eligible low-income individuals in western Ohio achieves self-reliance, economic opportunity and equality justice.

Provides a hotline number to speak with an attorney and get advice on evictions; virtual clinics provided on Tuesdays at 4pm. can call in or join from computer to get general information on the eviction process or speak with an attorney; online toolkit walks renters through whatever stage of the eviction process they are in, helps them prepare for court, and provides template documents.

Provides information and resources to clients who are being evicted including information on tenants' rights and help to navigate the eviction process.

Provides information on fair housing and for tenants and/or landlords who are involved in rental housing disputes, or which administer state laws or local ordinances which govern rent control and other aspects of tenant/landlord relations.

Permits a tenant with complaints regarding housing conditions to deposit rent due into an escrow account until the dispute between the landlord and tenant is resolved. Most rent escrow disputes are automatically referred to the Dispute Resolution Program.

Provides an alternative method to the traditional court system for solving disputes; program includes a check resolution service to help those who receive bounced checks to recover their money without filing criminal charges; a collection mediation service to help businesses collect past debts; tenant escrow services and landlord tenant mediations.

Provides information in regards to Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program compliance, policy changes, and the newest information from HUD. Their website includes FAQs and Knowledge Centers with information for both landlords and tenants.

Provides residents outside the City of Newark with Landlord/Tenant counseling and mediation; housing discrimination investigation; enforcement and complaint processing services; subsidized and market-rate housing information and referral; educational presentations and tenant educational services.

Provides counseling on rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords.

Provides information, advice, or representation to low income individuals with legal problems including consumer debt collection, domestic violence, divorce, child support, education issues (involving discrimination, student enrollment or suspension, and special services), eviction and other housing problems, federal tax controversies, healthcare, healthcare advance directives, financial powers of attorneys, simple wills, public benefits, sealing an adult criminal record, and social security/SSI.

Informs landlords and renters of their rights and responsibilities under the Ohio Landlord-Tenant Law. Provides information to help tenants fulfill their responsibilities when dealing with landlords who are not providing what was promised under the terms of rental leases.

May be called to apt./house where landlord is trying to evict a tenant without a court order - may also be called for other disputes, the officer will advise and protect the landlord or the tenant depending on the dispute in question.

Offers assistance to tenants facing eviction by providing legal advice, negotiating with landlords, and representing tenants in court.

Provides hearing for small claim cases involving $3,000 and under and requires parties to the action to present their own cases

Provides assistance to individuals who feel they have been the victim of housing discrimination due to gender, race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, ethnic group, marital status, Vietnam Era or disabled Veteran status, family status, or ancestry. Handles housing discrimination issues dealing with renting, home purchase, mortgage, or insurance.

Provides legal assistance in the following housing areas: wrongful evictions and landlord/tenant disputes, foreclosures, public housing and Section 8 disputes, housing discrimination, utility shut-offs, and other housing-related issues.

Provides landlord/tenant assistance and information to residents.

Handles cases in which the amount of money in dispute does not exceed $15,000.00, complaints involving landlord tenant disputes, evictions, rents, escrows, garnishes, and appeals to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles are filed with this division

Program provides Eviction Prevention Tenant/Landlord Dispute Resolution Services and free Tenant Eviction Prevention Education Workshops for tenants. Note: if resident is behind on rent and is at risk of eviction, this program will help link tenant to emergency rental assistance in the community and help them problem solve with their landlord so they may get caught up on back rent and maintain their current housing. Program also offers a 2.5-hour free Eviction Prevention Workshops (via Zoom) for tenants to learn how to avoid risk of eviction in the future. Tenants may register for workshops on Event Brite.
