The Ohio Civil Rights Commission is a law enforcement agency. The duty of the Commission is to investigate charges of discrimination and determine whether or not violations of the law have occurred. The agency investigates allegations of discrimination in the areas of employment, public accommodations, housing, credit, and disability (higher education) on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, ancestry, disability and military status. Familial status is a protected basis in housing. Age is not a protected basis in housing. Ohio Civil Rights Commission employees are law enforcement officers and must remain neutral.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) recognizes and protects the civil rights of people with disabilities. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. SOCIL provides assistance in addressing discrimination and barriers to access in the community, including housing, employment, transportation, and recreation.

Works to protect and defend the constitutional rights of American Muslims. Provides assistance for Muslims who believe that they have been treated unfairly or denied normal privileges such as discrimination regarding education, employment, or with housing.

Counsels, mediates, and advocates on behalf of Muslims and other Arabs who have experienced discrimination, defamation, or hate crimes. Works to protect and defend the constitutional rights of Muslims in America.

Assures minority and female representation on all city-sponsored and federally assisted construction projects in the city and SMSA. Also assures physical accessibility for handicapped persons to public buildings and streets. Processes discrimination complaints on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, national origin, and disability. If warranted, agency may file class action litigation on the behalf of its clients.

Provides advocacy, assistance with legal and immigration information, and media education on issues of importance to the Asian-Pacific community.

Provides legal assistance for those of Arab heritage who are experiencing any type of discrimination. Does not litigate directly on the client's behalf, but refers to a network of legal professionals as needed. Works with the civil rights offices of all government agencies on policies. Provides legal assistance for immigrants, including information on the law, what documents to file, and what course of action is required, as well as referral as needed for representation.

Works to stop anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry in the United States and abroad through information, education, legislation, and advocacy. Provides related information to the government, media, law enforcement, educators and the public. Fosters interfaith/intergroup relations. Seeks to resolve complaints related to discrimination.

Provides services which seek to have existing civil rights and anti-discrimination laws enforced, and to secure justice and fair treatment for all people. Involved in inter-group relations and combating extremism. Accepts and seeks to resolve discrimination complaints.

Works to combat sex discrimination in higher education and the workplace through community and campus outreach programs, a resource library and online advocacy tools, a Legal Referral Network, and various research reports. Provides support to workplace sex discrimination cases that have the potential to make a difference for all women.

Counsels, mediates, and advocates on behalf of Muslims and other Arabs who have experienced discrimination, defamation, or hate crimes. Works to protect and defend the constitutional rights of Muslims in America.

Investigates complaints of racial discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, police brutality, criminal justice, veterans, health, and education. Refers complaints to proper authorities for resolution.
