SOCIL provides assistance in addressing discrimination and barriers to access in the community, including housing, employment, transportation, and recreation.

Provides information and training to residents regarding landlord/tenant concerns and fair housing laws which prohibit discrimination because of race, color, religion, nationality, sex, handicap, family status, or military status.
Provides assistance forindividuals who believe that they have been treated unfairly or denied normal privileges based on their age, gender, race or ethnic origin, nationality, religion, disability, sexual orientation or marital status.

The local Fair Housing program is available to provide assistance with housing discrimination, provide education on your rights and responsibilities and assist in filing fair housing complaints. Offers a variety of assistance to people who believe they may be victims of illegal housing discrimination. Helps gather evidence to support a claim of illegal discrimination. Discusses enforcement options and provides support with filing complaints with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and/or initiating legal action.
Works to protect and defend the constitutional rights of American Muslims. Provides assistance for Muslims who believe that they have been treated unfairly or denied normal privileges in housing, education, and/or employment.
Evaluates education cases related to disability access and special education (including evaluations, behavior plans and modifications or failure to follow Individual Education Plans {IEP's}); school enrollment issues (including homelessness and school fees/records/other barriers); language access (bilingual services for child and parent/guardian) school discipline, including expulsion hearings and appeals and manifestation determination reviews (MDR's); post-secondary education for individuals with a disability that cannot access education; lawsuit filed by the school against the applicant to collect education expenses.

The Fair Housing Amendments Act specifically prohibits discrimination in any area of housing because of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, handicap/disability or familial status. We provide informational brochures for Tenant-Landlord Laws and contract with Ohio Regional Development Corporation to implement Fair Housing Services at 120 ½ South Fourth Street, Coshocton.
Accepts and investigates reports of housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex/gender, gender identity expression, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, ancestry, and familial status.

Investigates housing discrimination complaints throughout the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and provides advocacy services for persons who believe they have been encountered discrimination in housing (both in the public and private sector, whether rental units or purchased housing). If necessary the agency can do discrimination testing to confirm discrimination allegations. Can also make referrals to outside agencies for legal and other related services. Also conducts educational workshops for landlords, rental agents, real estate agents, and others as to what constitutes discrimination in housing. And how they can best comply with the law.
