Provides a victim assistance program designed specifically to assist the Hispanic/Latino community.

Elected position established by City Charter. Head of the Law Department which represents and advises the City in all civil, criminal and administrative law matters; prosecutes criminal cases in the Mansfield Municipal Court; and performs such other duties as may be required by the laws of Ohio, City Charter, ordinances, and at the direction of the Mayor and City Council. Civil Division prepares all contracts, leases and other instruments on behalf of the City and endorses on each his approval of the form and correctness thereof. Criminal Division prosecutes all misdemeanors criminal and traffic offenses, which occur within the City’s limits and the unincorporated areas encompassed by the Mansfield Municipal Court. Victims Services Program is administered through the Law Department and provides services to victims of misdemeanor violent crimes.

General Crime Victim Assistance
Offers financial assistance for individuals and their family members who are innocent victims of violent crimes. Payments can cover medical and related expenses, counseling, wages lost, crime scene clean-up, funeral and burial expenses and other financial support.
Contacts domestic violence victims within 24 hours of referral. If the victim is willing to pursue court action, will accompany and transport them to the prosecutor and to court. Provides a packet of domestic violence information to the victim, and encourages them to participate in a support group and/or counseling. Informs victims of the State Victims of Crimes program, and will assist them in filling out the necessary forms.

Assists with short term crisis intervention and/or makes appropriate referrals for victims of crimes and their families regarding the recovery from the trauma of their crime related experience; assists with referrals for compensation regarding medical bills as related to the crime, if applicable; assists and supports the victim through the legal system/court process. Assists and supports the victim through the post-conviction process of the case. Also assists and offers support to victims of domestic violence during the process of applying for civil protection orders and temporary protection orders, including stalking and sexually-oriented protection orders.
Provide temporary shelter for single women and women with children who are homeless. Length of stay is 30 days with goal of moving to stable housing. Assistance with finding permanent housing and other resources.

General Crime Victim Assistance

Provides access to victim advocates and/or prosecutors who can answer general questions about crime victim rights and the criminal justice process. Advocates also notify crime victims of case activity such as court dates, plea bargains, sentencing, and bond/release from custody if desired. Advocates may also provide referrals to other local resources and services that offer support to crime victims.

Administers the Ohio Crime Victims Compensation Program. Assists innocent victims of violent crime (resulting in injury) in recovering their economic losses suffered as a result of the crime. Maximum award of benefits to each victim per incident is $50,000. Assists only when recipient's funds are exhausted and there is no other source of compensation (such as insurance or settlement payments). Expenses eligible for compensation include reasonable medical expenses, mental health counseling (for specific types of crimes), ambulance services, funeral expenses, loss of wages, eyeglasses, dental work, replacement services (services victim can no longer perform), crime scene clean-up, evidence replacement, attorney fees relating to the application process, and other necessary services.
To assist victims of felony-level crime with out of pocket expenses for medical and work loss by means of reparations by the State of Ohio (Victim of Crimes Compensation). Serves as a source of information through the court process of the case; serves as a court liaison and support system; contact source for Parole Board information, etc.

Services are also available to family and friends of the survivor. 24/7 Support Services include: - Crisis Intervention: Provides free crisis intervention, support, and safety planning in a face-to-face setting or through the 24-hour confidential and/or anonymous hotline. - Support and Advocacy: Provides a Client Advocate available on call to respond to requests for direct client care such as accompanying to the hospital, during a forensic medical exam, at the Police Department, or in court.
