The Homeless Youth Grant through the Ohio Dept of Health is split to address two groups: homeless youth ages 14-24, and homeless pregnant women under the age of 24. The grant will provide physical and behavioral health support, social connections, and case management. According to the Dept. of Health those who are “couch surfing” or staying with family or friends on a temporary basis are included in the definition of homeless. The funds available through the grant to the youth are very flexible. The grant can assist with utility hookup, rent deposits, and much more. The youth can also be connected with a variety of services through the large network of providers.

The funds under this program are intended to target individuals and families who would be homeless without this assistance. Every household assisted by this program is provided case management to help them identify needs, establish a safe living situation, and to create a plan that connects them to the resouces needed to help them maintain housing. The Housing Crisis Response Program (HCRP) helps those who are on the brink of homelessness. It helps eligible clients maintain the housing that they are currently residing in or to move into more stable housing. However, this is not emergency shelter program or connected through Section 8 Housing Assistance. Its goal is to end homelessness and work towards housing security. Assistance is limited and based on individual need. In order to qualify, the client must be homeless or nearly homeless. These terms can mean that someone will be evicted, foreclosed upon or have no residence. This will be determined by the case manager.
