Eligibility

AEP customers who have received a disconnection notice or have been disconnected. Electric bill must have a minimum balance of at least $50. Income must be at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Level. Must have made a payment(s) of at least $75 on the account within the last 90 days if they are under 62 years old (by the account holder, not another agency). Veterans do not need to pay the $75 if they have verification of their veteran status (DD214, VA medical ID, military ID). Clients are only eligible for assistance once from 10/15/23 - 3/29/24. If the balance is over $350, then payment will need to be made to lower the balance below $350 before the program can assist.

Required documents

Picture ID and social security card or print outs for everyone in household. Proof of all household income for the past 30 days. AEP shut off notice with balance of at least $50. Proof of client's payment to AEP of at least $75 in the last 90 days (no payment required for those 62 and over). List of current monthly expenses. When the Summer or Winter Crisis Program is operating, eligible clients must show proof that they have applied to that program first (if eligible). If electricity is already off, clients must bring the old account number, a printout of a new account number, the old address, and the new address (and a receipt for the $53 reconnect fee paid at Kroger if needed).

Does not assist with security deposits or the $53 reconnect fee. If clients need to pay more than $350 in order to keep the electricity on, a payment on the client's part may be necessary before this program can help.
