The Ohio Revised Code contains rules concerning burial or cremation of deceased indigent persons (those with no savings that could pay for the burial or cremation and with no next of kin to provide these services) at the expense of townships or other municipal corporations such as villages and cities. In lieu of burying or cremating the unclaimed body of a deceased person, a board of township trustees may donate the body to a college (for research and/or dissection) or to the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors (for the purpose of education on embalming).
