Eligibility

- The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $69,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. - The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) program offers free tax help for all taxpayers, particularly those who are 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors. Will Not Prepare: - Schedule C with losses. - Complicated Schedule D (capital gains and losses). - Form SS-5 (request for Social Security Number). - Form 8606 (non-deductible IRA). - Form 8615 (minor’s investment income). - Form SS-8 (determination of worker status for purposes of federal employment taxes and income tax withholding). - Parts 4 and 5 of Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credits).

Fees
No fee. Note: The IRS is transitioning to fully electronic federal payments. This includes a phase out of paper tax refund checks beginning September 30, 2025. If you select to receive your refund by paper check, the IRS will issue a Notice CP53E and you can expect a delay in the processing of your refund by up to an additional six (6) weeks. Once you have received the Notice CP53E, you will need to visit your IRS account and provide banking information or additional information to receive your refund electronically.
