Eligibility

Serves Cuyahoga County. Accepts reports from Communicable Disease Control (reporting) professionals (doctors, nurses, and laboratories) as well as from the general public. Answers questions from the public about diseases occurring within the jurisdiction and general questions about communicable diseases. Informational presentations are available to community groups, schools, and institutions within the jurisdiction (Cuyahoga County except for Cleveland).

M-F: 8:30am-4:30pm (Professionals may report communicable diseases 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week).

Application process

Call to report a communicable disease, outbreak, or public health emergency that requires immediate public health attention. Others can call to ask questions or to request a presentation.

Description

Acts as the reporting agency for all reportable communicable diseases except TB, HIV and STD; conducts surveillance for the incidence and control of communicable diseases, and provides education on communicable diseases to the public as well as to institutions in the community.

Conducts a wide range of health-related education, regulation, and support services within its jurisdiction. Includes Environmental Health Division (food protection, risk assessments, septic system and well safety, solid waste disposal), Prevention and Wellness Division(nutrition services, wellness programs, dental care referrals), immunizations, lead poisoning prevention and detection, communicable disease prevention and control, child care education, school health, etc.), and Epidemiology/Surveillance Division. Acts as liaison with Early Start and Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps.
