HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION - UTILITY AND RENT ASSISTANCE | LAKEWOOD COMMUNITY SERVICES CENTER

Provides payment assistance for utilities (gas and electric). Also offers rent payment and/or rental deposit assistance. Agency will first try to work out a solution between the renter and landlord (such as letting the renter make extended payments or extending the due date for rent). Amount of assistance given will vary with each case. In most cases, assistance will be for no longer than three months. Provides help with finding affordable housing that meets the client's budget and circumstances.

Must call M-F: 10:00am-4:00pm to arrange for service; if no answer, leave a voice mail and the call will be returned (voice mail is checked once or twice a day). Online application for assistance can be accessed via website.

Eligibility

Serves Lakewood residents with gross income at or below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for Cuyahoga County: Household of ONE: $19,000 per year; TWO: $22,700; THREE $24,860; FOUR: $30,000; FIVE: $35,140; SIX: $40,280; SEVEN: $45,420; EIGHT: $50,560. Applicants must have some type of income that is enough to maintain their rent or utilities after assistance is granted. UTILITIES: Must have shut off notice; Must have already applied for HEAP (if in season and if eligible) and/or PIPP Plus; clients can receive assistance one time per year. RENT and RENT DEPOSIT: must be homeless or have received a summons to appear in housing court or a court ordered eviction notice (not a three day notice from the landlord). No restrictions for housing search assistance.
