For assistance by phone must also: be a family member including spouse, parent, sibling, child, grandparents, legal guardian, or significant other. There must be the potential of a medical emergency or serious health problem for the person in the disaster-affected area, such as the person has a previous illness or health condition or they are frail and elderly.

Must have had contact with the individual within 3 months prior to the disaster. Will not check on friends or property. Also offers a website where those affected by a disaster list their name along with a short message about their safety. Those looking for information about these individuals can search the website for the information. Information provided about the person in the disaster area includes first and last name, a brief message about their safety, and date posted on website.
