To request a protective order during business hours, individuals should visit the Office of the Circuit Court Clerk in their county of residence. For assistance in obtaining protective orders after business hours, individuals should contact their local law enforcement entity.

Eligibility

To be eligible to obtain a Domestic Violence Order (DVO) or Interpersonal Protective Order (IPO), the person alleged to have committed the abuse must have either: -physically injured/assaulted, strangled, sexually abused/assaulted, or stalked the requester or a child -threatened to physically injure or assault the requester or a child -done something to place the requester or a child in fear of imminent physical injury, serious physical injury, sexual abuse, strangulation, or assault -abused a household pet as a method to coerce, control, punish, intimidate, or take revenge against the requester or a child -done something to place the requester or a child in fear of imminent abuse of a household pet as a method to coerce, control, punish, intimidate, or take revenge against the requester or a child
