Serves First Energy customers within Portage County who are currently on the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Percentage of Income Payment Program (PIPP) or receive or have received help through the Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) and who qualify under HEAP guidelines - income at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Wiring upgrades and roof replacement assistance is provided for owner-occupied homes only and only when needed in order to proceed with weatherization assistance; tenants are eligible for light bulb and refrigerator replacement if needed. Assistance is generally provided once in a ten-year period. In order to determine whether appliances are inefficient and potentially qualify for replacement, refrigerators must be in working order. Broken appliances do not qualify for replacement.

Description

Works to help homes conserve energy by installing compact fluorescent light bulbs. Meters refrigerator energy use to determine if it is an "energy hog." If so, customer may be eligible for energy efficient unit. Program provides wiring upgrades and roof repair/replacements ONLY when it is necessary in order to proceed with weatherization assistance (through the Home Weatherization Assistance Program or the Housewarming Program), as determined by weatherization program staff.
