Eligibility

- Individuals and families in Portage County who are homeless (must be coming directly out of emergency shelter - if needed, shelter may be out of county). - Must not have any recent violent criminal history. - Those with a serious drug conviction or substance abuse issues must have 45 days sobriety. - Must either have a source of income or be seeking income and have a strong commitment toward self-sufficiency.

- Must have a referral from an emergency shelter program. - Contact this program to initiate registration if on the waiting list for emergency shelter at Miller House or seeking emergency shelter out of county. - Call the office Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm for more information

Description

Provides temporary subsidized housing in private rental units throughout Portage County. Assists residents in achieving and maintaining permanent housing, increasing economic and social empowerment and building on family strengths to improve family functioning and self-determination. Clients are provided with case management, budget counseling, life skills education, employment readiness training, vocational & educational assistance, job search assistance, linkage with other services, housing counseling & placement assistance. Goal is to move the client to permanent housing and self sufficiency. Shelter will help clients who are moving from the shelter into stable housing (such as an apartment) with acquiring household items and furniture.
