MAINSTREAM HOUSING VOUCHER PROGRAM | PORTAGE METROPOLITAN HOUSING AUTHORITY

Provides rental subsidies to enable persons with disabilities to afford to rent private housing of their choice. Those who are accepted will also receive housing counseling and search assistance, landlord/tenant mediation, and technical assistance to landlords for accessibility modifications.

Fee

Clients will pay 30% of their income for rent; the subsidy will pay the remainder of the rent.

Eligibility

- Must be age 18 or older and have a physical, mental, emotional, or developmental disability according to one of several specific legal criteria. - Must be very low income - generally at or below 100% of Federal Poverty Level (most receive only SSD or SSI). - Must live in Portage County.

PORTAGE METROPOLITAN HOUSING AUTHORITY

Provides housing to low and moderate income individuals and families living in Portage County. Administers public housing programs, the Housing Choice Voucher program and single family home programs. Owns 303 public housing units located throughout the county consisting of apartments, duplexes, and single family homes (70 are designated for older adults and disabled individuals and the remaining 233 units are for families). Offers resources for self-sufficiency - adult education, construction job training, and homeownership programs to agency tenants.
