Individuals age 65 or older, blind, or of any age and have medically determined physical or mental impairment that has or will last for up to 12 continuous months or result in death. Have limited income and assets ($2,000 for individual or $3,000 for a couple). Income limits vary depending on living arrangements, in kind supports and earned/unearned household income. Must be a legal resident of the United States; be a US Citizen or national or otherwise qualified non-citizen. Not be absent from the country for at least a calendar month; not be institutionalized (jail/hospital).
Local offices are open to the public M-F: 9:00am-4:00pm. The 800 number operates live M-F: 8:00am-7:00pm and with recorded information after hours. Many questions can be answered using this option.

It is strongly suggested that clients use website to see if they qualify for benefits and/or apply for program. May also phone to schedule an office appointment, which reduces waiting time compared to walk in service (Before someone makes an appointment they should call first, to see if the matter can be handled over the phone and to ensure the office is open to the public.)

Provides monthly cash benefits to aged, blind, and disabled adults/children with limited income and resources. Benefit amount varies, but average is $735 for an individual or $1,103 for a couple. In Ohio, individuals who receive at least $1 in SSI benefits qualify for Medicaid.
