Provides assistance for prospective or current public financial assistance recipients who are having difficulty understanding and/or obtaining the full benefits to which they are entitled by law under various income support entitlement programs including the following: - Ohio Works First. - Food stamps. - Social Security Disability and SSI. - Medicaid and Medicare. - Unemployment.

Application process

- Call the Legal HelpLine or visit website for more information or to apply for assistance. - If completing online application, applicants must provide a valid phone number where they can be reached. Applicants will be informed about the status of their application and next steps. - Prospective clients go through a brief eligibility screening process. If eligible, clients are scheduled to speak with an attorney who will discuss their problem with them. - Cases needing more than telephone consultation are served at local offices according to case acceptance criteria.

Fee

Legal services have no fee, but there may be court costs.

Eligibility

- Serves residents of Columbiana, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, and Wayne counties. - Gross household income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines OR must be an older adult age 60 or over. - Case acceptance is based on a variety of criteria including case type, level of service required, goal of representation, merit and availability of staff. Other criteria may apply based on the details of the case. - Even if a caller does not qualify for agency services, Community Legal Aid is often able to refer callers to another appropriate program.
