Basic Needs Assistance - Veterans / Surviving Dependents / Military Families | Ross County Veterans Service Office
Provides assistance with food, shelter (rent or mortgage), utility bills (gas and electric - up to $300), principal car payments, and other needed services for veterans, active duty military, and dependent survivors. In some cases, may assist with indigent burial. Assistance is in the form of vouchers. Amount of assistance is based on demonstrated need. Also available to make community presentations about these services. Does not assist with reconnection fees for utilities.

Application process
Walk in for service or, preferred, phone M-F: 8:00am-11:30am and 12:30pm-4:00pm to make an appointment. Client will be provided forms and will be given an appointment to return with documentation.
Fee
No fee for service.
Eligibility
Must be an honorably discharged veteran (but active duty service members may qualify). Dependents of veterans may also apply. Must be a legal resident of Ross County for 90 days prior to making application for financial assistance. Considers many factors when determining financial need including income from work, benefits from county, state and the federal government, and the claimant's living expenses and assets. For gas and electric bill assistance, must have a disconnect notice (does not help with reconnection fees). Funeral assistance is only provided for indigent veterans. Client can receive assistance as often as determined by the agency on a case by case basis.
