Long Term Care Ombudsman | Central Ohio Area Agency On Aging
An advocacy program for the rights of consumers of long term care. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman works on behalf of individuals receiving services or care from in-home services, nursing homes, adult care facilities, or residential care such as assisted living facilities. Provide advice on selecting services or facilities, and the rights of & service information for consumers. They are legally authorized to investigate complaints, intervene on behalf of a client or resident and negotiate solutions. Referrals & information provided as appropriate. Ombudsmen do not “police” nursing homes and home health agencies. Instead, they work with providers, residents, their families and other representatives to resolve problems and concerns. Ombudsmen are advocates who provide a voice to the needs and preferences of clients. Ombudsmen link residents with services or agencies, offer advice on selecting long-term care providers, inform consumers about their rights and provide information and assistance with benefits and insurance.

With the assistance of area providers, COAAA arranges and coordinates services to help people with activities of daily living in the home, such as homemaking, home-delivered meals, personal care, transportation, and more. COAAA offers education and resources to caregivers, professionals, and the public. COAAA also advocates for programs and policies that benefit older adults and individuals with disabilities.
