COURT FILINGS - TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER - NONFAMILY | CUYAHOGA COUNTY CLERK OF COURTS

Accepts petitions for civil protection orders. Once the petition is filed, a hearing will be held within seven to ten days. After the hearing, the judge will decide if an order should be granted. However, an emergency protection order can be granted until the hearing takes place. Does not give legal advice.

Application process

Before filing, it is strongly recommended to seek help from an attorney or agency that provides assistance with protection orders. Only adults 18 and older may file. Persons under 18 must have a parent or guardian file for them. Walk in to file M-F: 8:30am-4:30pm; Sa: 9:00am-1:00pm. Phone for information M-F: 8:30am-4:00pm, Sa: 9:00am-12:30pm.

Generally serves residents of Cuyahoga County but other conditions may apply. Adults 18 and older; but youth under 18 may have a parent or guardian file on their behalf. Clerk of Courts handles nonfamily situations, such as a coworker or someone in the cummunity. Division Of Domestic Relations handles those who are family, have a child together, and/or married (looking to divorce or seperate).
